What is a PDF?

PDF, short for Portable Document Format, is a type of file that allows you to view and print a document as it actually appears, even if your computer doesn't have the fonts or programs used to create it.

You need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view and print PDF documents. Your browser may already be equipped with this software. If not, you can download a free version (6.0 or higher) from Adobe’s website.

Viewing PDFs

Viewing a PDF anywhere on our site is as simple as double-clicking the PDF image you want to view. (Your computer will automatically launch Adobe Acrobat Reader and open the document. Depending on the document's size, this could take a few minutes.)

For options such as zooming in to increase the size or viewing multiple pages simultaneously, use the toolbar that appears above the document.

Printing PDFs

To print a PDF, you can click the printer image in the Adobe Acrobat Reader toolbar or use the keyboard command you normally employ. If the printed document has problems, check your printer to make sure it has graphics capabilities.

Downloading PDFs

Whether you're a Windows or Macintosh user, downloading is an easy 4-step process.

  • Place your cursor over the PDF image link.
  • Click and hold your mouse button and choose the menu option that allows you to “Save (the file or target) As”. (Use the right mouse button if you're on Windows.)
  • Enter the location where you want to save the file.
  • Click “OK”.
